MHBYF Jamaica Fundraising for Lethe School
One of our youth coaches has been impacted by the devastation caused by Hurricane Melissa. We have rallied together to help fundraise and gather supplies to support the individuals and the community.
Lethe School in Jamaica has 133 students, 8 faculty, and 4 leaders/aids who have been displaced. Many of the kids come from homes that were destroyed, leaving them without clothes or any supplies for school. The coach plans to return in mid-January to bring supplies to Lethe and help coordinate an after-holiday meal for kids and their families.
Items needed :
-
clothing for kids aged 5 to 12 years (shirts, shorts, underwear, socks, shoes, dresses, and pants).
-
school supplies for children
-
resources for the school (laptops, iPads, etc.)
Donations :
Funds will be necessary to help ship the donations to the destination. So far, 8 suitcases' worth of bug spray, kids' toys, stuffed animals, and clothing have been collected. The average luggage fees are estimated to be $50 each. More cost will occur, the more items that are collected. There is also a list of used items that the Mt Horeb School District is selling we would like to purchase.
We have a few events that are in the process of being planned. We will update as more info becomes available.
Please consider donating your time, supplies, or funds to support this community.
